Limelight Casinos: Poker: Rules |
There are differences than
just the standard variations of these games. In High Chicago the player
with the highest spade as a hole card wins half the pot. The opposite of
High Chicago is Low Chicago and the player with the lowest spade wins half
the pot. If one player has both the highest and the lowest spade that
player then wins the entire pot. A simple variation to seven card stud is
a game called Follow the Queen. In this game if a queen is dealt face up
after any other card, the card that came before the queen is a wild card.
However if no queen is dealt the game proceeds like a regular game of
seven card stud.
If you are not an experienced gambler you may not know the game Billabong.
This game is a muddled up version of Manila. That is, the game begins with
every player being dealt two down cards and one up card. The lowest up
card starts the betting round if there is a bring in otherwise the highest
up card starts. Then two community cards are dealt and another round of
betting ensues beginning with the player that has the best poker hand
showing. A third and a fourth cards are dealt each with their own betting
round to follow. After the fourth round the players will battle it out in
a showdown. The best five card hand wins the pot. A slight change to
Billabong is Shanghai. In Shanghai the game is played exactly the same
except an extra hole card is dealt. However, the player can only use two
hole cards to make the five card hand not all three. Just to make sure
players are not bouncing back and forth between their three hoe cards one
must be discarded at some point in the game. The most common place to
discard is immediately or the second most popular place is right before
showdown.
The last game on the list is not necessarily a poker variant, rather it is
a stripped down version of poker. Guts is a multitude of games played over
and over increasing the pot at a rapid pace. Essentially, players receive
three or fewer cards, ranked similarly to hands in poker. Each round is
the only round in these series of one round games. In each round each
player will decide to be either in or out. Then a showdown occurs. The
losers of each round must match or double the pot depending on how the
rules are agreed upon before dealing. This allows the pot to grow rapidly
and give you a few chances to win if you lost in an earlier round. The
winner receives the entire pot.
For quick look at some common rule variations in poker, look at the list
below.
KILL GAME is when a player wins two pots in a row of a fixed limit game,
the stakes are doubled. Also in some split pot games a player winning both
halves of the pot can cause a kill.
WILD CARD can simply be called out to a specific card or done by luck of
the draw.
TWIST ROUND, or otherwise known as a Tittle, is when players may buy
another card from the deck. If the card is unsatisfactory the player may
buy another adding his money to the pot.
HIGH/LOW SPLIT is when the pot is split in half and highest and the lowest
hand wins.
STRIPPED DECK is when players play poker with only twenty cards as it was
first played long ago.
