Limelight Casinos: Poker: Live vs.
Online
The Differences btwn Types of Poker Play |
If you have not realized yet
there are a few differences in playing poker live than online. Some of
these differences are big and some are very small. More importantly some
dissimilarities can help you win more money.
The easiest and most noticeable difference is the fact that poker players
in a brick and mortar casino sit across from one another, online they do
not. A huge part of being able to win at face to face poker is being able
to see a player’s tell, or keep a poker face in order to keep others
guessing. Online that factor of the game disappears. Instead, online poker
players learn to focus more keenly on patterns of betting, reaction time,
the rate at which a competitor plays, use of check boxes/auto plays,
opponents' fold/flop percentages, chat box, waiting for the big blind,
beginners' tells, and other behavior tells that are not physical in
nature.
Another significant difference is the way people learn how to play poker.
If someone learns online they can learn at a much quicker pace than in a
traditional casino. A novice can repeatedly take big risks when playing
for free and learn the consequences for rash decisions without the loss
coming out of their wallet. Folks sitting at an actual poker table do not
have the same benefit. Online poker rooms every now and then offer the
hand history of played hands for analysis and discussion using a poker
hand converter. Now everyone who ever wanted to learn how to play has the
tools conveniently found inside their computer.
One difference that most players would not think about is the speed at
which the game is played. When you play online nobody has to wait for a
dealer to shuffle the cards or to deal them out. There is no waiting for
the dealer to count the chips or delegate them. The computer does it
electronically and in the blink of an eye. In a brick and mortar casino
the average rate of play is thirty hands per hour. In an internet casino
you will probably play anywhere from ninety to a hundred hands in one
hour.
Because of the rate of play an additional variation of playing the game
has occurred. Usually a player would play one game at a time as it was
impossible to be sitting at more than one table. Now savvy players can be
playing multiple games over the internet, viewing them in separate
windows. Having the capability to play multiple games at once greatly
increases the chances of winning more money. No longer does a player have
to increase their limit to win more money. The limits at the tables also
help the chance of winning. Online limits can be as low as one cent; brick
and mortar casino limits are as low as one dollar.
Being able to play online surely has some benefits that cannot be beaten
by the land casinos. Then again you do not have the thrill of playing in
front of a live crowd.
